The Castillo de Anguix perches dramatically on a rocky outcrop above the Bolarque Reservoir near Sayatón in Guadalajara province, exemplifying castillo roquero architecture designed for steep, defensible terrain. Mentioned in chronicles by Abd-al-Rahman III and rebuilt around 1160 by order of Martín Ordóñez for Alfonso VIII to defend the Tajo River boundary, the fortress received pentagonal configuration during 14th-15th century reforms. The widow of Martín Ordóñez subsequently donated it to the Order of Calatrava. Designated a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1992, the castle remains in advanced deterioration but retains its principal structural elements, offering commanding views across the reservoir landscape.
