Castillo Santacara in Navarra was erected around 1210 by Sancho the Strong as a key component of the kingdom's defensive network against Aragonese incursion. The fortress featured a rectangular floor plan with corner towers and a central tower reaching nearly 30 meters in height. Though ordered destroyed in 1512 following the Castilian invasion by the Duke of Alba, under order of King Ferdinand the Catholic of Aragon, this remarkable tower survived centuries of attempts to demolish it. Today the consolidated ruins preserve the tower's imposing remains and traces of the original floor plan, with free public access available.
