Castillo de Gigonza is a 15th-century fortress in San José del Valle, Cádiz province, positioned strategically on the road between Medina Sidonia and Arcos de la Frontera. Built as a subsidiary of the House of Arcos under Alonso Enríquez, the castle features heraldry of the Ponce de León family and displays an almost square shape with a tower and adjoining wings surrounded by high walls. Access to the courtyard proceeds through an arched doorway displaying the Casa de Arcos coat of arms, reflecting the nobility's influence in its construction and design. Declared a Bien de Interés Cultural monument in 1993, the castle represents important Andalusian military architecture and the power dynamics of the Reconquista era.
