The Castillo de Santa Ana in Roquetas de Mar represents centuries of coastal defense evolution, with its origins traced to an early 14th-century Nazrid fortification built as part of al-Andalus's maritime defense system. Substantially rebuilt and expanded between 1501 and 1522, the fortress was ravaged by an 1804 earthquake, leaving only its distinctive square-shaped armoury standing today.
