Castillo de Benal is a distinctive fortress in Riello, León, with a rare triangular floor plan dictated by its hilltop location, one of only two such examples in Spain. Built on an ancient Castro with Roman origins related to gold mining supervision until the 3rd century, the castle first appears in historical records in 1366. It became the patrimonial seat of the Quiñones family in 1375, launching their rise to prominence as lords of Luna. The fortress retains its tower of homage and some walls despite centuries of change, and was designated a Cultural Interest Asset in 1949. The municipality has undertaken restoration efforts to preserve this important regional heritage site.
