Castell de Rajadell crowns a hilltop in the core of Rajadell, Bages comarca, controlling the passage of the Riera de Rajadell and guarding the natural communication route between the Bages plain and Segarra region. Declared a cultural property of national interest, it stands as one of the largest and best-preserved castles in the region, alongside Castellbell and Balsareny. Originally documented as Castro Agello in 950 and associated with the Rajadell family lineage from 1025, the fortress evolved from medieval defensive stronghold to residential Gothic manor during the 13th to 17th centuries. The Rajadell lords participated in major conflicts including the Reconquista wars and the 1471 war of the Generalitat against Joan II, during which the castle suffered considerable damage, though its substantial architecture has survived the centuries largely intact.
