Castillo de Torrenovaes, also called Castillo de Os Novais, occupies a rocky crest in the semi-abandoned village of Os Novais in Lugo province, within the Quiroga comarca. Constructed in the 13th century by the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem, the castle served as a significant religious military stronghold until the disamortization of 1848. Its architecture combines a palace building with a defensive keep featuring thick walls, moats, and fortifications. Local legend recounts a tragic tale of the lord's daughter and a peasant who were sealed alive in a tunnel connecting the castle to the opposite Sil River bank, adding romantic mystery to this preserved ruin.
