Castillo de Grimaldo, located in Cañaveral, Cáceres province, is a fortress from the last third of the 13th century built to control the strategic Vía de la Plata (Silver Road). This medieval stronghold granted asylum rights by Kings Alfonso X and Sancho IV provided refuge to travelers regardless of their circumstances. Owned by the Sánchez de Grimaldo family and later significant nobles, the castle remained a key defensive position commanding views of surrounding territories. Today, only the impressive Torre del Homenaje survives, featuring three vaulted floors and decorated with coats of arms, preserving the castle's aristocratic heritage and strategic importance in medieval transportation networks.
