Torre de Boabdil, located in the urban center of Porcuna, Jaén, is an octagonal stone tower standing 28 meters high, constructed between 1411 and 1435 under the orders of Master Luis de Guzmán of the Order of Calatrava. Built at the corner of the former Islamic castle, the tower served as the keep of the now-vanished Calatrava fortress and features elegant Gothic arches and vaults inspired by Cistercian architecture. The tower bears historical significance as the legendary prison of Boabdil "el Chico," the last king of Granada, who was held there after his capture in 1483 at the Battle of Lucena until capitulating to the Catholic Monarchs. Now serving as the Archaeological Museum of Obulco, the tower provides visitors with a tangible connection to the final chapters of the Islamic kingdom in medieval Spain and exceptional examples of late medieval military architecture.
