Castillo Peñas de San Pedro crowns the summit of Peña del Castillo, a rocky promontory in Albacete offering striking panoramic views across the plains and sierra foothills. This ancient fortress served as one of the most important defensive enclaves of the taifa of Murcia before becoming Christian following an expedition led by King Alfonso VIII in the 13th century. The site demonstrates continuous occupation from the Bronze Age through the 19th century, when it housed the Royal Territorial Audience during the Carlist Wars. Currently undergoing restoration, visitors can access the summit plateau to explore remaining walls, church ruins, and take historic walks around the castle's base via recently created paths.
