Castle of Paracuellos de la Vega rises from a natural rocky platform in Cuenca's Lower Serranía, believed to date to the 12th century with clear Muslim origins. In 1187, King Alfonso VIII of Castile donated the fortress to the Bishop of Cuenca, marking a significant transfer of Christian control. The castle preserves a double line of stone walls with a round tower and internal structures, anchored by an impressive pentagonal keep tower that dominates the complex. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1992, the fortress has undergone recent restoration, preserving its important strategic position in medieval Castilian history and showcasing the blend of Muslim and Christian defensive architecture.
