Castillo de Rochafrida occupies a spectacular position seven kilometers from Ossa de Montiel within the Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park in Albacete province. Built during the 12th century by the Berber Masmuda tribe under Muslim rule, this military fortress features an irregular twelve-sided stone enclosure on a rocky dolomite foundation shaped by the dramatic terrain. The castle preserves its complete perimeter, town walls, and a distinctive cylindrical tower. Beyond its architectural significance, Rochafrida inspired the literary romance of Rosaflorida, immortalized in Spanish literature including references in classical works.
