Besora Castle occupies a dramatic rocky spur at 1,092 metres altitude in the Vall de Lord, straddling the Lleida-Barcelona boundary in Catalonia's Solsonès region. First documented in the 10th century as a pivotal centre of power for regional nobility, the fortress was accessible only by fortified northern pathways, enhancing its defensibility. During the Muslim period, it monitored the frontier with Christian territories, later becoming deeply embedded in Catalan feudal structures. The castle's complex of three extended buildings now functions as a traditional rural masia dwelling. Designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest, this medieval stronghold represents the intersection of Catalan and Muslim frontier history across centuries.
