Castelo de Navia is an ancient fortress in Navia de Suarna, Galicia, with origins tracing to 1037, positioned strategically on slate stone foundations in the mountainous Os Ancares region of Lugo province. Built by the Counts of Altamira, the castle sits on rocky terrain overlooking the Navia River and preserves portions of its original walls and turrets with three doors at different levels. Historically serving as a sentinel point over a medieval bridge and connecting important trade routes between the castles of Doiras and Doncos, the fortress changed hands among the Osorio and Altamira families. Surrounded by deep valleys and high mountains, this medieval structure reflects Galicia's strategic defensive heritage.
