Castillo de Mucientes in Valladolid occupies a hill overlooking the town as a fortress with roots reaching to 1326, when King Alfonso XI granted the castle to his chief steward Alvar Núñez Osorio. Over its approximately 400-year reign as a residential palace, successive Counts of Ribadavia owned and inhabited the fortress. The castle achieved greater prominence when used as a Royal Palace during Queen Juana I of Castile's 16th-century stay and hosted royal visits during Spain's turbulent Communidades War. Though now standing in consolidated ruins, the castle remains a dominant landmark and has been inscribed on the Red List of Heritage by the NGO Hispania Nostra, highlighting its need for preservation and restoration efforts.
