Monzón de Campos Castle stands in Palencia province, where medieval forces built two fortifications to protect this strategically important settlement. Originally constructed by Alfonso III of León as a defense against Muslim incursions, the present-day castle was rebuilt in the 14th century by the Rojas family on the remains of an earlier structure. The castle served as the center of a county granted to the powerful Ansúrez family during the 10th and 11th centuries, later passing to the Rojas family, one of Burgos' prominent noble lineages. The fortress reflects medieval Castilian architectural traditions and represents centuries of evolving defensive construction, from the early foundations through 15th and 16th century modifications during its ownership by successive noble families.
