Castillo de Montemolín is a substantial Almohad fortress perched on a hilltop near Sierra Morena in Extremadura's Badajoz province. Constructed in the twelfth century as part of a defensive line against Christian advancement, the castle features numerous square towers and masonry walls adapted to the rugged terrain. After its conquest in 1246 by Christian forces—marking the final Islamic stronghold in Extremadura—it was rebuilt in masonry by the Order of Santiago, who added a semicircular tower and a large keep for their headquarters. Though now in ruins, the structure's architectural complexity and strategic position across the landscape remain visible, testament to its importance during the medieval frontier struggles.
