Castell de Montaneixos occupies a strategic mountainous position on the left bank of the Montant river in Montanejos, commanding views across the Millars river valley and eastern territories. This medieval fortress played a crucial social, political, and cultural role during Muslim domination and the subsequent conflicts between taifa kingdoms before eventually losing its defensive function and gradually deteriorating. The surviving remains comprise three distinct structures: two towers and a cistern, along with fragmentary wall sections that document medieval fortification techniques. From its elevated ruins, visitors encounter panoramic vistas across the Mijares valley, offering tangible connection to Montanejos' medieval past alongside evidence of the materials reuse that occurred as the structure declined.
