Castillo de Maderuelo perches on a rocky elevation dominating the Riaza valley in Segovia's Ayllón region. Originally established in the 10th century and rebuilt following Almanzor's raids, the town was formally founded in the 11th century with settlers from Burgos and flourished during the 13th century as a prosperous settlement with approximately ten parishes. The castle was granted in 1423 to Don Álvaro de Luna, Constable of Castile, marking a pinnacle of feudal power. Today, only the Torreón del Castillo tower remains visible, featuring a quadrangular defensive structure with remnants of an underground cistern, damaged by lightning and partial demolition yet still conveying the fortress's historical significance.
