Castle of Macastre is an Islamic fortress dating from the 17th century, situated in Valencia on a hilltop that once held Bronze Age settlements, making it a palimpsest of civilizations. Originally designed as a large-scale Muslim defensive formation, the castle commanded strategic views across the surrounding terrain of the Sierra de Dos Aguas and Sierra de Malacara ranges. The ruins remain perched prominently on the hill with remains of multiple historic periods visible at the site, including traces of much older settlements beneath the Muslim fortifications.
