CASTLES LLINARS DEL VALLÈS

Castell de Castellvell del Far in Llinars del Vallès rises at 401 meters altitude atop the Corredor mountain range, offering panoramic views across the Mogent valley toward Can Bordoi. Built around the 9th or 10th century possibly on Ibero-Roman foundations, the castle is documented from 1041 when owned by Gombau de Besora. The site changed hands repeatedly, passing from the viscounts of Barcelona through the Far, Centelles, Cabrera, and Corbera families, with the latter constructing a Santa Maria chapel around 1336. The compact hilltop fortification, measuring approximately 20 by 30 meters, features a circular protective ditch and wider outer enclosure, its narrow wall dimensions suggesting an originally tall watchtower structure. Today the site remains accessible to hikers exploring the historic Catalan landscape.

Castell Nou de Llinars del Vallès is a remarkable Renaissance palace constructed between 1548 and 1558 by Riambau de Corbera-Sant Clement following an earthquake that destroyed its predecessor, the Castell Vell. Located in central Llinars del Vallès, Barcelona, this square-plan structure measures approximately 27 meters per side and is organized around a central courtyard with two stories, ground floor, and attic space. Featuring a Gothic portal bearing the Corbera coat of arms, the castle has been designated a Cultural Property of National Interest and is considered one of Catalonia's best-preserved Renaissance buildings, representing both architectural elegance and historical resilience.
