Castell del Paborde, also known as Castell de la Selva, rises in the historic centre of La Selva del Camp in Tarragona's Baix Camp region. Originally constructed as a simple tower during the 12th-century repopulation period, it later expanded to include a substantial hall used as a cellar for storing tithes collected by the paborde, a dignitary of Tarragona Cathedral. From 1194, the castle served as the residence of successive pabordes who administered the town and its surrounding lands until the position's suppression in 1410. Recently restored and rehabilitated, the castle now functions as a multipurpose cultural centre hosting temporary exhibitions, permanent displays, and audiovisual presentations on local heritage, recognised as a national cultural asset.
