Castillo de Peñaflor, also known as the Castle of Ossa after its mention in the Cantar del Mío Cid, dominates the municipality of Huesa del Común in Teruel from a rocky spur. Captured by the legendary Cid in 1082 and subsequently fought over between Christian and Muslim forces, the castle changed hands multiple times before its definitive capture by the lords of Belchite under Ramón Berenguar IV of Barcelona. The ruins consist primarily of two square towers at each extreme of the rock separated by approximately 30 meters, positioned strategically above the town. The castle remains a Cultural Heritage Asset, with its strategic location and historical significance linked to the epic struggles for control of medieval Aragon and its importance during the Carlist wars of the 19th century.
