Torre de Torrecárdenas is a cylindrical 16th-century defensive tower built on Almería's outskirts bordering Huércal de Almería, constructed under Gutierre de Cárdenas to protect against invasion threats. The three-story masonry structure features a characteristic arched doorway on the first floor and small arrow-slit windows for defense, originally accessed by a withdrawable wooden ladder. In good condition following restoration, the tower remains prominent in local identity, giving its name to both the surrounding neighborhood and a major hospital of the Andalusian Health Service. The tower's image appears on the municipal shield of Huércal de Almería, reflecting its enduring cultural significance.
