Castillo de Haza crowns a hill overlooking the Riaza river valley in the province of Burgos, dominating the landscape as a 9th-11th century fortress protecting Castilian borders during the Reconquista. Built during the County of Castile's territorial expansion, the fortress later passed through the lordships of the powerful Lara family and eventually the Counts of Miranda. By the 14th century, Haza had become the head of a Community of Villa and Tierra. Constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries, the castle remains partially ruined but was substantially consolidated. The Keep Tower opened as an exhibition space in October 2021, allowing visitors to explore this crucial defensive stronghold of medieval Castile.
