Castillo de Gádor, also known as El Castillejo de Gádor, sits on a hilltop 2 kilometers from the village of Gádor in Almería province, overlooking the Andarax River valley. This Arab fortress originated in the tenth century during the caliphal period and was documented by the twelfth-century geographer Al-Idrisi before its conquest by Catholic Monarchs between 1488 and 1489. The castle preserves two square-plan towers constructed of rammed earth with remnants of outer defensive walls, with the northwestern tower featuring three stories of defensive architecture. Though progressive deterioration has affected the structure and it remains privately owned, the castle serves as an important archaeological site documenting medieval Islamic military engineering in Almería province.
