Castillo del Cuerno is a 9th-century Islamic fortress located in the mountains near Fuentes de León in Badajoz, Extremadura, originally built on a site containing Visigothic Christian worship structures. Constructed during the Caliphal period as part of the defensive frontier of the Aftasi kingdom, the fortress was reformed by the military orders of the Temple and Santiago after the Christian conquest in the 13th century, becoming an important stronghold on their defensive line. Built using tabiya and masonry techniques with architectural elements spanning the 9th to 14th centuries, the castle required consolidation work completed in 2008 to halt its progressive decline. Its remote mountain location underscores its strategic importance in medieval frontier defense.
