Castillo del Hierro, also known as Castillo de Fuentes, originated as a Muslim fortress of probable Almohad construction in the 12th century before being transformed into a noble residence between the 15th and 16th centuries. Located strategically in Fuentes de Andalucía, it controlled important merchant routes including the Carril de la Lana. Following its conversion from military stronghold to aristocratic palace in the 17th century, the castle gradually declined. Recognized as a Heritage Interest Asset in 1985, the fortress was purchased by the municipality in 2016, now undergoing restoration to preserve this important landmark.
