Castell d'Esponellà is an 11th-century fortress perched on a hilltop in the Pla de l'Estany region near Esponellà, Catalonia. The castle began as a modest watchtower under the Creixell family and expanded significantly through the 13th and 14th centuries. Its fortifications were further adapted in the 15th century to accommodate firearms. Today the ruins reveal multiple walled enclosures, with the oldest structures on the northwest featuring a large restored square tower. Declared a Cultural Heritage Site of National Interest, the castle's elevated position offers commanding views of the surrounding medieval landscape and represents a well-preserved example of Catalan defensive architecture.
