Vacar Castle, also known as Castillo de Mano de Hierro, is a Moorish fortress in Espiel, Córdoba province, constructed during the Caliphate era under Al-Hakam II to protect the main route between Córdoba and Badajoz. Perched on a hilltop above the Guadiato River with views of the surrounding Sierra Morena mountains, the fortress commanded strategic importance in medieval transportation networks. Though declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 1985, the castle now stands in poor condition with only its heavily eroded perimeter wall remaining. The site's dramatic natural setting and historical significance offer insight into Islamic military architecture and the region's contested medieval history.
