Chulilla Castle rises dramatically atop a mountain in the Los Serranos region, approximately 60 kilometers from Valencia, merging with sharp cliffsides along the River Turia's impressive canyon. Built during the Arabic period on an older fortress foundation, the castle witnessed conflicts including the War of Succession, Peninsular War, and Carlist Wars until abandonment in 1872. Designated a Historic-Artistic Monument, the fortress features dramatic stonework snaking along mountainsides above canyon walls reaching 160 meters deep. Free entry provides access to spectacular views over Las Hoces de Chulilla, where visitors can explore both the fortress ruins and the natural geological formations.
