Castillo de Cervera del Río Alhama crowns the Peña de San Antonio peak overlooking the town of Cervera del Río Alhama in La Rioja. The fortress displays layers of historical occupation spanning from Celtiberian and Roman periods through the medieval era, with preserved structures primarily from the 13th and 14th centuries. The castle comprises a central tower of homage with rectangular plan, interior cistern, and an elongated esplanade protected by walls containing rock-hewn chambers and a second defensive line with its own cistern. Conquered by Alfonso I the Battler in the 11th century, the castle later served as a frontier stronghold between Castile, Navarre, and Aragon. Though now in ruins, the site retains significant archaeological and strategic importance as a landmark of medieval frontier defense.
