Castle of Castillo de Garcimuñoz is a magnificent fortress located in Cuenca province, Castilla-La Mancha, with roots tracing to the 12th-century conquest of Cuenca by King Alfonso VIII. Rebuilt on earlier foundations in the second half of the 15th century by Don Juan Pacheco, Marquis of Villena, the castle showcases transitional Gothic and Renaissance architecture with Italian influences. The fortress features a square floor plan reinforced by round turrets topped with brick domes, originally equipped with casemates for artillery. A Baroque church of San Juan Bautista was constructed inside during the 18th century, and comprehensive restoration from 2010 to 2016 by architect Izaskun Chinchilla created a contemporary bridge between historic preservation and postmodern design.
