Castillo de Castiliscar, located in Zaragoza province, stands as a testament to Aragonese defensive architecture with roots tracing to at least 1088. Perched on an oval-shaped hill above the town, this fortress was part of a strategic chain of fortifications between Loarre and Sos, protecting the region during the medieval period. In 1201, the castle came under the control of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, who also built the Romanesque church of San Juan Bautista below the fortress around 1176. Recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Asset), the castle remains an important landmark reflecting centuries of Christian reconquest and ecclesiastical influence in Aragon.
