Castell de Castro is a medieval fortification of Arab origin located in Alfondeguilla, Castellón, positioned at 789 meters above sea level on a rocky outcrop within the Sierra de Espadán natural park. Built as a watchtower before the Christian era, the castle commands impressive views spanning from the Needles of Santa Águeda to Cape de la Nao and from Peñagolosa to the Columbretes Islands, occupying approximately 2,000 square meters divided between the albacar (fortified refuge) and the main castle with its large keep. The strategic positioning between two deep ravines maximized its defensive advantages; the main tower was demolished during the Spanish Civil War, and the site remains declared a Cultural Heritage location accessible via a challenging hiking trail.
