Castellet Castle is a historic fortress positioned in the Alt Penedès region between Barcelona and Tarragona, established in 977 by Count Borrell II as a strategic watchtower with protective walls. From the 13th century onward, the Castellet family ruled the castle through multiple centuries of Catalonian history. Acquired and restored by ACESA in 1999, the castle now hosts the Fundació Abertis and serves as the UNESCO International Centre for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves headquarters, advancing work on Mediterranean conservation networks. Guided visits lasting approximately 45 minutes are offered on the second weekend of each month, allowing visitors to explore this medieval structure that continues its mission of cultural and environmental stewardship.
