CASTLES CASTELLAR DEL VALLÈS

Castell de Clasquerí stands on a hill above the Ripoll River in Castellar del Vallès, a feudal castle of 10th-century Romanesque origin that underwent Gothic modifications between the 13th and 15th centuries. The complex consists of four distinct zones: the main castle building with ground floor and two stories, the Chapel of Santa Bàrbara, an aqueduct system, and adjoining farmhouse structures. Originally reformed by Guerau de Clasquerí in 1335 and extensively renovated during the 19th and 20th centuries, the castle maintains an impeccable appearance today. Though privately owned and not open for public visits, it serves as a distinctive venue for cultural events and select occasions.

Castell de Ribatallada is a 12th-century fortified farmhouse located at the hilltop boundary between Castellar del Vallès and Sabadell in Vallès Occidental. Documented from 1060 and later granted in fief by Count Ramon Berenguar IV in 1136, the castle passed through ownership of notable families including the Montcada, Clasquerí, and Togores before becoming a peasant farmstead by the late 14th century. The partially ruined structure reveals its transformation from feudal fortress to agricultural dwelling, reflecting the socioeconomic shifts of medieval Catalonia. Today the site stands as a reminder of the region's defensive heritage and complex land tenure systems.
