Caracena Castle stands as one of the most significant medieval fortresses in Soria province, located in the picturesque village of Caracena in Castile and León. First documented in 1136, the castle represents two distinct construction phases, with its origins predating the 12th century. During the 15th century, the structure played a pivotal role in conflicts between the Catholic Monarchs and local nobility. In 1491, Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña rebuilt the fortress with artillery fortifications, incorporating the architectural innovations of an era when gunpowder had transformed castle design. The castle is part of a rich historical complex that includes two Romanesque churches, Santa María de la Asunción and San Pedro Apóstol, preserving a complete picture of medieval heritage in the region.
