The Templar Castle of Cantavieja perches dramatically on craggy clifftops above the medieval village of Cantavieja in Aragon's Maestrazgo region. Built by the Knights Templar, the fortress endured an eight-month siege in the early 14th century before eventual royal dissolution of the order. Though severely damaged during the Carlist Wars and partially collapsed by an 1923 storm, restoration efforts from the 1960s to 1992 have preserved key structures including a circular tower and hermitage.
