Castillo de Zafra, also known as the Tower of Joy, is a 12th-century fortress rising dramatically from a large sandstone outcrop in the Sierra de Caldereros at 1,400 metres elevation near Campillo de Dueñas in Guadalajara. Built on the site of former Visigothic and Moorish fortifications that came under Christian control in 1129, this medieval stronghold features partially restored crenellated walls reinforced with corner towers. The castle's formidable construction reflects its strategic importance during the Christian reconquest of the Molina-Alto Tajo region, and today visitors can appreciate its imposing silhouette and architectural remains from viewpoints outside its perimeter.
