Castillo de Cutanda rises on an elevated hilltop overlooking Calamocha in Teruel's Jiloca region, built by Muslims on the remains of ancient Celtiberian settlements. The fortress witnessed a significant Christian victory under Alfonso I against the Almoravids in 1120, then was rebuilt as a noble palace for the Bishop of Zaragoza while retaining military functions. Listed as a Cultural Heritage Property of Interest, Cutanda played a key defensive role in medieval Aragon's Wars of the Peters. Heavily damaged during the Second Carlist War, the castle now presents mainly surviving walls, serving as a tangible reminder of the region's medieval strategic importance.
