Castillo de Burguillos del Cerro crowns a rocky hilltop dominating the town in the Badajoz province of Extremadura, serving as one of the region's most important medieval fortresses. Of Muslim origin, the fortress was built to protect surrounding villages from Christian siege and was conquered by the Templars around 1230. After centuries of changing ownership between nobility and the Church, the castle acquired its distinctive layout by the 14th and 15th centuries. The structure features a nearly rectangular main block with corner towers, the most imposing being the Tower of Homage. Its fortified position provides commanding views across the southern Extremaduran landscape and reflects strategic medieval defensive principles.
