Castillo de Bonilla de la Sierra crowns the village of Bonilla in Ávila province, originating as a 12th-century walled enclosure before undergoing major expansions in the 14th and 16th centuries. The castle served as a summer residence for the prelates of the Ávila bishopric and hosted important ecclesiastical synods, including the notable gathering of 1384. The fortress centers on a 14th-century Tower of Homage distinguished by matacanes and round arches, with the primary courtyard and chambers situated beneath. The castle retains three original wall sections, three turrets of varying styles and periods, and remarkably preserves 14th-century paintings. Though now private property, the exterior remains visible to visitors, and the castle's connection to the Ávila church persists as a defining aspect of its historical identity.
