Torre del Caracol (Tower of the Snail) is a remnant of the once-magnificent Castillo de la Mota in Benavente, Zamora. Built in the early 16th century by the Pimentel family—a powerful Castilian noble house—the tower showcases Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles with a square floor plan and three stories. Originally part of an immense palace complex with extensive gardens, the tower survived a devastating 19th-century fire that destroyed the remainder of the structure. Designated a protected heritage site (BIC) in 1931 and converted into a tourism parador in 1972, the tower remains one of Spain's finest examples of noble residential military architecture and continues to serve visitors seeking to experience Castilian nobility and heritage.
