Castillo de Benabarre, also known as the castle of the Counts of Ribagorza, crowns a limestone rock promontory overlooking the town of Benabarre in Huesca, Aragón. Founded in the late 10th or early 11th century and rebuilt by King Ramiro I in 1062, the castle served as a crucial frontier defense. It rose to prominence when it became the seat of the Counts of Ribagorza in 1322, housing significant political power. The fortress witnessed numerous medieval conflicts and was demolished in the 17th century but reused during later wars. Today designated as a Cultural Heritage Asset, the castle opens daily and offers guided tours, providing visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding Ribagorza landscape.
