Castle of Aznalmara, also known as Tavizna Castle, is a 13th-century Nasrid fortress located on a rocky hill in Benaocaz within the Sierra de Cádiz region. The castle witnessed intense conflicts between Muslim and Christian rulers before falling to the Marquis of Cádiz in 1485, after which the duchess abandoned it, leaving Aznalmara in permanent ruin. Though fragmentary, its remains reveal sophisticated military design including defensive ramparts, the keep, palace walls, water cisterns, and reservoirs that demonstrate advanced Islamic engineering. Offering panoramic views toward the Sierra de Grazalema Nature Park, the castle was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1993 and represents a critical chapter in the region's contested medieval history.
