Castillo de Balboa stands on a hill overlooking the town of Balboa in the Bierzo region of León, Castilla y León. This medieval fortress dates to the 13th century and served as a center of power for the Valcarce-Balboa lineage, with its earliest documentary reference from 1260. The castle was reformed in the 15th century to accommodate artillery, and subsequently owned by the Conde de Lemos and the Marquesado de Villafranca. After centuries of abandonment, the castle was restored and transferred to the Municipality of Balboa in 2006, preserving its square tower and surrounding walls as a testament to medieval fortification in northwestern Spain.
