Castillo Formós, also known as Castillo de La Suda, is a historic fortress in Balaguer, Catalonia, with roots extending back to 897 when Lubb ibn Muhámmad ordered its construction as an Andalusian military stronghold. Between 1045 and 1082, it was transformed into a palatial residence featuring refined ornamental plasterwork with polychrome finishes and Quranic inscriptions. After Christian conquest in 1105 by Count Armengol VII, it became the capital of the county of Urgel and continued as an important political and military center. The castle's history culminated dramatically in 1413 when it was totally destroyed during the revolt of the last count against King Ferdinand of Antequera, ending both the castle's dominion and the county's independence.
