Castell d'Assuévar rises majestically on the highest part of a mountain in Azuébar, dominating the confluence of two ravines in the Alto Palancia region of Castellón province. This fortress originated as a Muslim castle dating to the 12th century and was first documented in the Llibre del Repartiment when King James I donated it to Aragonese nobility in 1237. Though now completely ruined, the castle retains significant architectural elements including portions of its walls, a lower section of its main tower, and remains of additional towers and a cistern that speak to its former defensive importance.
