Castell del Bou Negre crowns an elevated mountain peak on the border between Argelita and Ludiente in Castellón province, overlooking the Villahermosa River at 748 meters altitude. This Muslim-origin fortress was documented in 1178 and formed part of a network of castles established by Alfonso II of Aragon to define the Diocese of Tortosa, exercising control over a large territorial extension during the Islamic period. Currently in complete ruin, the castle preserves sections of walls and tower foundations, including a rectangular tower built with large stone blocks and the distinctive "Window of Ludiente," a carved opening overlooking an impressive precipice.
